About Old Whittington

In 1688, they tried to start a revolution in Old Whittington. Three local noblemen met at the Cock and Pynot alehouse to plan to overthrow King James II. The ‘glorious revolution’ saw William of Orange become king. The pub, now known as Revolution House, is now a free public museum dedicated to the events of the time.

In 2017, we’re starting a new revolution in the village – a whole new approach to building super-energy efficient homes.

Old Whittington is just two miles from Chesterfield town centre – and an easy 10 mile commute up the nearby A61 to Sheffield. The local bus service to town stops right outside our new homes.

The local Mary Swanwick Community Primary School is rated ‘good’ by Ofsted.

About Chesterfield

Chesterfield is a town reborn. Around £1 billion is being spent in the town over the next few years on new roads, housing, retail. commercial and leisure facilities. The entrepreneurial spirit that built Chesterfield through the industrial revolution is very much alive and kicking.

As the gateway to the Peak District, the town is great place to live and work. Once at the heart of coal mining and the wool and leather industries, Chesterfield is now home to many leading hi-tech businesses – and of course the world-famous crooked spire of St Mary and All Saints Church.

There’s also the 800 year old market – and the biggest Tesco you’ve ever seen, right next to the four star Casa Hotel and Chesterfield FC’s new Proact Stadium.

There are great road connections – the M1 is minutes away – and from the railway station you can travel direct to London, Edinburgh, Glasgow and all the way to Cornwall.
